Women's Group
What links Japan, Korea, Peru, Uganda and America with Scotland?
The answer is our Women's Meeting. These are countries which have been represented by ladies attending our fortnightly, Friday evening meetings when among other things we have been studying the book, "Treasures of Encouragement" which was a gift to us from women of St. Andrew's P.C.A. in Memphis, Tennessee.
The Women's Meeting re-commenced after a break of several years with a Tearcraft evening just before Christmas 2006 when Eleanor Robertson brought along items for sale and told a little bit about some of the people in developing countries who we are supporting when we purchase Tearcraft products.
As well as the Bible studies we have various folk speaking. At the end of January Catherine MacPherson introduced us to some people she had re-encountered during her recent trip to Peru with her husband John. She gave us little "snapshots" of each of their lives and asked us to remember them in prayer.
At the beginning of March several ladies gave their testimonies of how God has worked in their lives. We heard from Jessie, our minister's wife, Dale Mackay, Isobel Harron and Charity who is from Uganda. It was great to hear that although we may be from different backgrounds and have had varying life experiences we are all individually special to God.
"We chat, we laugh, we have cried as special moments of our lives have been shared..."
In May four of us shared a favourite Bible passage, saying why it was special to us and also choosing a psalm to go with it. We also heard from Geraldine, a colleague of Maggie Macleod, who told us a little bit about the challenges of having brought up seven children and how the Lord is helping her cope with her husband's serious illness.
At our last meeting before the Summer break we had the opportunity to hear from Liz Ferguson about the work of Amica - Pregnancy Crisis Centre.
Around twelve of us meet together to enjoy these evenings. We chat, we laugh, we have cried as special moments of our lives have been shared, we sing together and we enjoy food at the end of each evening.
Our meetings are informal, in Colin and Jessie's house and we'd love to see more ladies joining us.
