Leith Street Light

Mission

As part of the Free Church we enjoy supporting our missions work.

Our congregation has a special interest in the work in Peru, as two former missionary couples worship with us at Leith.

John and Catherine MacPherson

John and Catherine worked in Lima, where John was the headmaster of Colegio San Andres.

Clive and Ruth Bailey have now taken up the work in the Colegio, where Clive is the new Director.

John was also involved in the Lima Evangelical Seminary.

The Rev. Donnie Smith is the current rector of the Seminary and his wife Julia helps to look after the resident students.

Charles and Daphne Douglas

Charles & Daphne Charles and Daphne worked in Cajamarca. Although there are no missionaries presently working in that area, the work does go on.

A local pastor who studied at the Free Church, Alonzo Ramirez, heads up a pastoral team and is involved in a local training programme.

We also have enjoyed Peruvians worshiping with us in the past:

The Vergara family: Fransisco, Ruth and their daughter Anna, and Apolos and Pilar Landa.

Mission Focus

David and Martha MacPherson: John, Samuel & Joseph

The MacPhersons Rev David MacPherson (son of John and Catherine) heads a ministry team out of the Moyobamba congregation of the Evangelical Presbyterian and Reformed Church in Peru. Martha is superintendent of the Sunday School and provides general congregational support. David has recently been appointed director of the Annie Soper Christian School.

A project to construct a university is at the development stage and David is crucially involved in its planning. He is also regularly involved in radio and television ministry.
