Would be termed 'A real Leither' Born, bred and schooled in Leith. Baptised in Elder Memorial by Rev John Shaw (his first baptism after being ordained as Minister). Came to faith in early boyhood. Influenced by parental example, sound Sabbath School teaching and an evangelistic campaign in Leith Town Hall conducted by Rev Lionel B Fletcher in 1933. In those days, children weren't encouraged to 'come forward', and so didn't make public profession of faith until 1948 following return from wartime service in the RAF.
A founder member of the Highways & Byways Mission in 1952. Served for a period as Session Clerk in the early days of London Free Church, and later of Livingston Free Church which was planted by Elder Memorial.
